Social, Fraternal, Professional Participation, Awards: National Assn. of Manufacturers Presidents Council; 2005 Citizen of the Year for Tuscarawas County; United Way of Tuscarawas County campaign chair & board member; First Moravian Church elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher; Chair, Community Improvement Corp of Tuscarawas County; College of Wooster Alumni Board; with wife, recipient of the 2011 John D McKee Alumni Award; POPAI Marketplace trade show chair (1992), Chairman of the Board (1995-6), Industry Achievement Award (1998), President’s Award (2004), and Hall of Fame (2008).
Personal Accomplishments: Testified before Congress, addressed the Governor of Ohio and his cabinet, and have been published widely in magazines and newspapers. As a teen, was an Eagle Scout with Gold Palm; served as the American contingent leader for the 14th World Jamboree in Lillehammer, Norway; and was a two-way, two-year starter for the Massillon Tigers football team. Organized and led teams of cyclists in various American AIDS Rides, raising over $250,000 for HIV/AIDS charities. Awarded the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Award for work in educating over one million Americans about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. Served on the board of the National Leadership Coalition on AIDS. President of the College of Wooster Alumni Association (2004-6). MBA from Amos Tuck School (Dartmouth).
Personal (married, children etc.): Married to my college sweetheart for over 25 years; four gorgeous, talented daughters spanning a dozen years: we once had one each in grade school, middle school, high school and college. Phew! We adopted our two youngest from orphanages in Siberia in 2002. Live in a restored Victorian home (1890) on the National Historic Register.
Favorite Example of Tusco’s Ingenuity: There are actually three that come immediately to mind: 1.) Going from 60+ fasteners down to NONE and from 45+ minutes assembly time to less than ten for a merchandiser for Primo that holds over 1,500 pounds of product and is now in thousands of locations nationwide.
2.) Being challenged by Rust-Oleum to fix an engineering flaw in another company’s paint display and delivering that fix in less than 24 hours. 3.) The daily, often-mundane ways we find to solve problems large and small to meet our clients’ needs.
